Why is the USA so behind in cell phone technology compared to the rest of the world?
Sanjay P asked:
I have used a cell phone in India, UK, Europe and the USA. And EVERYWHERE else but here has inter-compatibility of phones between companies, SIM card usage, pay-as-you-go phones, WAY better service reception, and overall ease of usage of cell phones/customer service from phone companies. So what is keeping the good ol’ USA from keeping up with the GSM technology that the rest of the world uses, and we keep insisting on using our sub-standard technology?

US companies are inherently cheap and lazy. They won’t invest in new formats until they are forced to. Why do you think it’s taken THIS long to get even basic HDTV here? Most broadcast stations STILL don’t offer OTA HDTV and those that do, only offer it for a short time each day.

USA cell phone technology is not behind just get a good cell phone (about $70+), not the one’s you get for free in the internet. Get a good telephone wireless company like Verizon and you will be good!

Good question man? I don’t know but something has to get better with these phones soon because they cost to much and the reception isn’t that good!!!!!!!

In Spain and Germany we have third-generation mobiles almost two years ago! (GSM? What’s that? We use GPRS!) (video-calling, real music -mp3- and video -3gp- downloads…) And I get really embarrased when a see the handys you still use in a “from-this-year” Hollywood film! Maybe you should ask P. Bush!

Poor wireless Phone Service = 60.00 a Month
Land Lline Phone service = 40.00 a month
High Speed Wireless Service = 30.00 a Month
Limited Cable TV Service =70.00 a month
Total USA Digital Entertainment Month Cost = 200.00
VS.
OVERSEAS WIRELESS PHONE SERVICE with all the goodies comparable to those above = 50.00us
Do the math, it is a control and money issue. The Telephone companies swore to never lose all the billions they missed out on in the mid 90’s when pretty much anyone could offer access to the internet which can lead to other services which can replace the ones above.
