Electric Vehicles Take Center Stage in Detroit

On the opening day of the Detroit auto show, US-based automakers touted new products with a focus on fuel efficiency that they say will help return them to financial health. (Jan. 11)

While I love the thought of using alternative fuels for vehicles which should help us both reduce our foreign oil dependency and reduce emissions I can’t but help wonder…
If the auto industry is planning on making a strong move to either plug-in hybrids or pure electric vehicles (which are also plugged-in for charging) have they started putting infrastructure in place that will generate the “extra” electricity needed?
Here in California, our state’s electric production is already tapped at times and if they aren’t thinking ahead, this extra need for electricity could cause problems of yet another kind.
